A QPR suicide prevention training will teach participants warning signs of suicide, intervention skills and referral resources in the community.
The 1 1/2 hour QPR (Question, Persuade and Refer) method training will teach participants the three-step QPR method. Participants will learn how to recognize at least three warning signs of suicide, how to ask someone about their potential suicide intent, how to listen and will be taught skills to assist a person at risk of suicide. In addition, myths and facts related to suicide and suicide as a national and local public health concern will be covered.
The training will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, in the media center at Fort Collins High School, 3400 Lambkin Way.
Parents and anyone interested in attending MUST preregister for the training by Monday, April 23. To preregister or for more information, call Bonnie Kindsfater, PSD Student Assistance Services, at 490-3306. Class size will be limited. There is no charge for the training.
This QPR suicide prevention training will also be offered Tuesday, May 1, at Wellington Middle School, 4001 Wilson Ave., in Wellington (preregistration deadline is April 27); and on Wednesday, May 2, at Rocky Mountain High School, 1300 W. Swallow (preregistration deadline is April 30).
